After the dates were dropped some time ago, GPVWC Management have announced that this years GPVWC Day will be taking place in Liverpool, bringing the paddock to Merseyside to participate in the awards ceremony, alongside the annual Karting Trophy and other activities.
With tradition dictating that this years GPVWC Day would be back in the UK, in line with the biennial switch between the British Isles and Europe and following the 2024 event taking place in Warsaw, speculation was flying around the paddock for weeks regarding the location. Milton Keynes, although becoming somewhat of a home for GPVWC after hosting the last 3 UK-based events, was not a bookies favourite, but a return to Manchester after 11 years away was seen as a possibility, as were a host of other locations throughout England.
A very popular idea was a trip north of the border into Scotland, with both Edinburgh and Glasgow as a host city being thrown around by many. It turns out that this was, for a period of time, a very real possibility, as GPVWC Administrator Will Ponissi revealed that the management team were heavily toying with the idea of a Scottish GPVWC Day for 2025. While it was ultimately decided that the North West of England was the best bet, it is understood that a future event in Scotland is something that GPVWC Management are very keen to do, perhaps in two years time.
Liverpool was ultimately chosen as it has plenty on offer ? a city filled with history and culture, with much to explore and take part in, and a vibrant atmosphere. Of course, there is also the musical and sporting significance to boot, and it is a location that is easily accessible, with multiple transport links. For anyone travelling into the UK for the event, it is recommended that you fly into Manchester Airport and get the train from there to Liverpool Lime Street station, although Liverpool John Lennon Airport is roughly 30 minutes from the city centre by public transport if you are able to get a direct flight. It is also recommended, given the time of year, you pack warm clothes.
Some things are still yet to be finalised and announced, such as the GPVWC Karting Trophy, where reigning Superleague Champion Jan Granqvist will be looking to defend his crown, but expect more details to emerge over the next few weeks. Until then, book time off of work, get your accommodation sorted and get ready ? because on the 15th and 16th of November, GPVWC Day goes Scouse, not English.
