Malta Force Their Way Back To The Top

· Uncategorized · By GPVWC Editorial Team

Race 1 was all about strategy for the Malta Force drivers. Luca D Amelio, who last raced 5 years ago in GPVWC, took a surprise pole position on his return, but when Pawel pitted at the end of lap 12, it was almost inevitable he would be undercut.

Mateusz Majka and Luca boxed the following lap, but somehow Andrzejewski didn’t manage to get the jump on the leading pair. They came out of the pitlane, and almost made contact, before going 3 wide heading into the second chicane. However, it was the Malta Force drivers who emerged ahead under braking, and that was how it remained. Fine margins, and so close, for Amerlio.

Further back were some squabbles and contact – Philipp Konig crashing out in the first Lesmo, and lap 1 contact doing for Pleiss.

Lahtinen, who took a double podium in Hungary, struggled a little more in race 1, taking 5th place.

In race 2, Ribolli led us away, but contact with his teammate down at turn 1 led to him dropping to the back of the pack. Majka and Andrzejewski moved through the field relatively easily, and were able to get into the podium places, but were unable to steal the victory from Luca D Amelio. Fine margins indeed, this time the Italian was able to hold on for victory.

Lahtinen took 4th place, but unfortunately for him, he will struggle to catch the Malta Force drivers for the championship now, barring disaster. The title fight will be between the teammates, and there’s plenty of action left this season.
