The race started with Meschede on pole, Soriano alongside on the front row. Rain was in the air, but everyone apart from Lucas Murno started on slicks. However, Magnusson, who had qualified excellently for KV86, snuck past Soriano to follow Meschede on lap one, before taking the lead coming down into the first corner on lap two.
Immediately after, the rain came, which made Murno’s choice to start on inters look a brave, but genius choice.
However, it didn’t last long. Those who started on slicks were able to brave out the brief shower, and settled in for what they hoped would be a one-stop strategy.
Most cars started on soft tyres – in anticipation of rain, and it came again on lap 11. Then, it was all about gambling on when to pit for inters. Soriano and Magnusson got the calls right, Meschede span, and Norbert Jakab moved himself into the podium positions. Meanwhile, Mike Kwint had snuck up the order and was putting in a good showing in 6th, battling away with Puschke.
Then, on lap 19, Magnusson ran wide at the first Lesmo, which took him out of contention.
From there, it was waiting for the track to dry, which it did around 15 laps to the end. Norbert Jakab was the first to pit for slicks, but it was slightly early and he ended up coming out behind Soriano. Soltero pitted last, but having the best tyres to the end proved to be too mch for Jakab, and he snuck by after Jakab ran wide at the second chicane trying to hold on to second.
Soriano was untroubled and won by 10 seconds.
Behind them, Puschke and Kwint had good races, to take 4th and 5th.
